Your love of punk is obvious here, the majority of these being reduced to "two chord two step too fast, too much treble". Whilst I can appreciate it, I don't really have an ear for it preferring something more melodic and with more of a driving beat. Punk style beats were always a little too disorganized for me.
Strange since my tastes run from experimental jazz fusion to death metal. That includes Slayer who are just as capable of going off the rails by trying to play faster than they really should.
But what do I know? I'm also into symphonic metal.
I love covers w/hen they are done right, regardless of style. Sometimes genre-bending can come out way better.
One of my favorite covers is Metallica covering Motorhead's "Stone Dead Forever". I know that's basically blasphemy since "Lemmy is God", but honestly, it's a cleaner arrangement, recording, and puts a hell of a lot more talent on display.
Then there's Van Canto, who covers metal songs a-cappella. The "guitar solo" from Battery in particular is actually quite impressive when you realize it's a guy's voice.
The cover of Nightwish's "Wishmaster" proving that one does not simply riddly-diddly into Mordor.
And of course, who can forget Camille and Kennerly doing a "two girls one harp" cover of Metallica's "One".
Though in that way I'm more into novelty covers. Thus my liking Pat Boone and Paul Anka doing metal songs as lounge act standards.
Or even better, Rob Scallion and Sarah Longfield's "Uke group" videos. Ukulele covers of Slayer and Cannibal corpse?
The best cover in the whole set being Slayer’s “bloodline”.
