When so much of the stuff being made right now seems to be an attempt to drag other languages to all the safeties and precautions Pascal and other Wirth family languages had from the start over four decades ago.

Just like how Java and .NET basically use their own flavors of P-Code. For such a "dead and irrelevant" language it certainly is influential with everyone pining for its features and methodologies.
