More than two thirds of it is nothing more than the "role" malarkey to try and cover up for people too lazy to learn HTML semantics. You know what's better than using the wrong tag and correcting it with an aria-role? USING THE CORRECT HUFFING TAG!!!

As to the rest, it's all time wasting code bloat nonsense to do things that shouldn't be done, like trying to convey visual layout concepts to non-visual users or adding metadata not of use to accessibility or search, but to data scraping content theives.
