My turn with a late reply! :D

See, even gun control advocates in the US would call the idea of "anything other than single shot" absurd. I think this stems from the fact that the US has never fought a domestic war against another nation, and the fact that armed civilians -- not our military -- carved this nation out of the wilderness.

And I don't just mean the American Revolution, I mean when it came to settlers "manifesting their destiny" by killing off the Indians and kicking out the Mexican government.

Part of the "american patriot" attitude stems from this history. There are many pro-gun advocates here who in fact favor the idea of every citizen having a "Weapon of war" so that our government can be "put down" by the populace if need be. That is in fact one of the core arguments in favor of the 2nd amendment is the idea of "enemies domestic and abroad" includes our own government.

It's what happens when your nation was created by the first noteworthy popularist uprising against a monarchy resulting in a colony breaking away from its mother country. They idea of government overrreach so terrifies many Americans they consider it the greatest possible evil that we "all" need to be ready and armed against. The US was created by civilians arming themselves and taking on the largest and most proficeint professional army in the world at the time!

Even in the age where their stupid little tinkertoy AR-15's stand no chance against actual M-4's, 105mm howitzers, main battle tanks, and laser-guided airborne munitions, that mindset is still the driving force amongst "2nd amendment" die-hards.

This is also why US gun laws make next to no sense. Even the definition of a firearm is arbitrary and absurd. For example muzzle loading black powder weapons -- irregardless of magazine or cylinder capacity -- aren't even regulated as firearms.

No joke, this is how ridiculus US gun laws are:

A weapon that in your country equals jail time, isn't even considered a firearm here! No restriction of ownership, no paperwork on buying one, no waiting periods, no background checks, not even a bloody age restriction!

That is horrifying! Yet is considered completely normal in the land of the penis extension, home of the insecure and fearful.
