Misadventures In Buying And Customizing An E-Bike

And how I landed on the “Aventure”. No, that’s not a typo.

Back in 2008 I was in dire straights physically. As a programmer / web developer / electronics tinkerer I spent WAY too much time eating garbage and sitting on my arse. I’m only 5'4" tall and had ballooned up to 280 pounds. My heart raced going up and down stairs, I had just been diagnosed a couple years prior with a medication induced Parkinsonism, and my non-24 sleep-wake disorder was out of control. Worse the only real thing there was to do in the town I was living in was to go across the street to the only store for 10 miles in either direction. I loved the area, but the only reason I would waddle my tuchas out the door was to get a sub at the convenience store literally across the street.

Changes needed to be made.

I moved to a more active town with more to do, and bought a simple beach cruiser bicycle that could handle my… generousness…
