It's by no means off at an angle from the topic. When you have an ignorant populace who can't even use terms like "machine gun" or 'semi-automatic" for what they mean, or "assault rifle" when those are already banned, or the nonsensical "assault weapon" bullshit that has not one blasted thing to do with lethality or effectiveness of a firearm? Well...

Ignorant populace leads to ignorant politicians--or worse corrupt demegogues pandering to that ignorance -- who end up passing ineffectual ignorant laws that do nothing about the problem.

Thus every time someone on the left says "military-style assault weapon" they are in fact undermining the cause.

Is it the be-all end-all of the problem? Hell no. Plenty of blame to go around... but until those who are opposed to firearms can actually use any of the terminology properly, they'll never be taken seriously by the other side!

It ends up being like the people who love Superman in those Avenger movies. Or that meme from a while back about the "try-hard" Duella Dent cosplay.
