I would probably use the word “undetectable”… in that way “dark’ is as much of a misnomer as the “dark side of the moon”.

Though “dark matter” always made me ask “what if this undetectable matter is just beyond the edge of the observable universe?”

Which is in a way the ultimate “just because you can’t see it”
