I honestly don't know what's worse, that so many blind copypasta developers incapable of doing the simplest of tasks on their own rely on idiocy "packages" to create dependency hell... or that a developer who gave shit away threw a temper tantrum over people using something he was giving away like a cut-rate version of RMS.
Since if you'll remember, that's how the FSF got started was Stallman throwing a conniption fit over some code he gave away freely that ended up in a commercial package. It's like "hey moron, yeah moron! You know you gave that away freely, right?"
This isn't the first time we've seen "thousands" of programs go bits up because of an NPM developer deciding "nope", and it won't be the last. Remember that stupid string padding routine from just a few years back that was utterly redundant to functions that were added to JS in EMCAScript 5? That people continued -- and in fact continue -- to blindly copy into their code even though we've not needed it for years?
And seriously, are ANSI escape codes REALLY so freaking hard you need an entire library and multiple dependencies to use them? For something any qualified programmer would make maybe six lambda's to implement in about a minute? Delta Alpha Foxtrot Uniform Quebec!!! Any time you allegedly save by blindly copying that crap you could probably waste just learning how someone else did it.
You know terminal programmers from the '80's and '90's are pointing at you and laughing at the incompetence, RIGHT?
The reek of stupidity across the board when it comes to modern web technologies just continues to escalate yearly. Frameworks, packages, dependencies, copypasta development. As all of this ignorant bloated trash is just going to keep on blowing up in people's faces.
I guess I shouldn't complain too loudly about that. As an accessibility and efficiency consultant, fixing these disasters is my bread and butter. Still it would be nice to see something remotely resembling simple competence once and a while, instead of the endless pointless layering of abstraction upon abstraction, brainless copying of code you don't even understand, and blindly trusting that what you're copying is any damned good when most of you using all this garbage actually couldn't code your way out of a piss soaked paper bag with a hole in the bottom.
ENOUGH! Maybe bother learning something more than "eye cans copiez teh wurk uff udders!"
