I fail to see what it is your scripting is even doing that the CSS isn't already providing, or could not provide all on its own. It LOOKS like it should be adding some sort of drag to scroll, over the text, but it's non-functional here and/or acts bizarre with text selection instead of providing actual drag.

NOT that sideways dragging is intuitive for most users, which is why you only usually see that type of navigation on artsy-fartsy junk that tells users with accessibility needs to go **** themselves.
